Discipline and Devotion

I'm slowly learning that discipline also means being more attentive to the task of posting blogs. I do have a lot to say - just ask my wife! I changed the site layout and got it the way I want it so now it's keep-it-up time.

On this Memorial Day weekend, let me take time to thank all those who are actively serving in our Armed Services and those who have served to keep this great country free. God bless each of you.

Our Alaska trip is set for last week of June so hope the weather cooperates. Just like here in the Pacific NW, the weather in AK is unpredictable; you take what Mother Nature throws at you. It will be a good trip with our grandson as he will see part of this great land that he's never seen before. He'll also get a first look at broad daylight at 11PM! Then after a few hours of twilight, sun up. He's going on 11 so I'm sure he'll want to spend most of one night watching the process. We don't get into Anchorage until 11:30PM so he'll get the experience early on.

At our church, The Rock Church, in Monroe WA we have a totally different approach to the way we do "church." Marlys and I are involved in Guest Services where we greet first attenders and many, many times we hear from parents that they came from a church where their kids were bored, but can't wait to come to the Rock because it definitely is not boring! We want to reach people where they are and regardless of who they are since this was Jesus' model. He didn't go through a list of qualifications; if you were searching and you came to where He was, you were qualified. Not that Jesus is only at the Rock Church, but we want to make sure He is there and people feel His presence.

We are practicing devotion, which is the catalyst for life. Everything we do should revolve around devotion. Marlys and I went to lunch with a couple who have just started attending the Rock. It was so fantastic to just sit and talk with them, learn about them, their families, their hopes and desires. It's so good to get our of our comfort zone and enjoy those around us.
