Worship

We were blessed to share the first Sunday our pastors' (Jeff & Melinda) adopted daughter was in service - not once but twice, both services! Seven Addison Knight was born one week ago and today she went to church. This was especially sweet as Jeff & Melinda have been seriously trying to have their own children now for 11+ years, with no success. Failed attempts along with two adoptions that fell through brought a lot of questions, maybe sometimes doubting and asking if they were 'cursed' after all the prophetic words given to them about having children. Today, Jeff's Sunday morning message was that God is worthy of worship regardless of our circumstances and situations. If he and Melinda had given up, quit believing God's promises it would have meant they did not consider Him worthy of their worship. What a tragedy. Because they continued to worship Seven Addison was all the more precious.

Ok, what is worship? To me it's believing God is who He says He is whether or not our situations say He cares. Worship is more than music, more than singing, more than the instruments playing, it is a state: a state of accepting Him for who He is no matter what we are going through. Paul, in his letters to the early churches, conveys this time and again. Give thanks always, Paul admonished: he meant, simply, to always give thanks. And Paul gave us example after example of what that meant in his life. Is this thanksgiving easy to do always? Not for me. I must discipline myself to do it. And when I work at it, there is such satisfaction in being obedient. I'm looking forward to WORSHIPPING God every day this week - join me.
